Be the Hero of 2019

How have you decided to remember this year?

Maybe it was a great year with a lot of fun memories. Time with family. And lots of love.

Maybe your year . . . . well, let’s just say it wasn’t any of those things. Maybe you would rather forget 2019 all together.

But what if you could change how you remember the last 12 months?

Did you know that’s totally an option?

You can 100% choose the story you tell yourself about your year or even about your life.

You’re probably saying, “But Shannon, that’s not possible. Look at all these terrible things that happened to me. You can’t just change the past”

Do any of these 2019 memories sound familiar to you?

2019 was the year of physical pain.

My heart was broken into a million pieces by a loved one.

I’m such a failure. I will never succeed at _______ (job, relationship, project etc.).

Why did that person have to die?

I’m not as confident as so-and-so, so I will never achieve the things that I want.

Do any of those memories sound like they could belong to you?

Ok. Look. I’m not saying live in dreamland with fairies and unicorns.

You can’t change anything that happened in the past.

BUT you can change how you remember and interpret what has happened, because that’s what you have now from the past.

A memory.

How would 2019 be different if you rewrote your story with yourself as the hero instead of the victim?

You are the hero, you know.

Maybe your story would sound something like these instead:

2019 was the year I learned how to listen to and take care of my body.

I know how to love deeply, and no matter what my loved one says or does, I am a survivor.

I’m failing my way to success rather than failing ahead of time by quitting or not even trying.

I’m so grateful that I was a part of that individual’s life, and now I can celebrate it.

I’m learning to be confident in and love myself.

Same circumstances, different story.

Your brain is so much more powerful than you know.

It is wired to look for danger or problems, because it wants to protect you.

Your brain will always default by looking for the problem. . . . by looking for all the things that were wrong with your year or with your life.

But here is the good news. You can train it to look at any situation differently.

No, I’m not talking about looking at things through rose-colored glasses, but I am offering another perspective.

You are the hero in your story.

Do you recognize it?
